Next phase of Adelaide Airport terminal expansion begins
Adelaide Airport customers will start to notice significant changes within the terminal as the
next phase of the terminal expansion project begins.

Hoardings are going up along the main concourse adjacent the area previously occupied by
Hudsons Coffee, MAC Cosmetics and Victoria’s Secret. The children’s play area will be
closed and a new, improved play area is being developed as part of the project.
Some existing retailers, including Hudsons Coffee, MAC and Seed, have temporarily moved
to new locations and pop-up stores.

Adelaide Airport Executive General Manager Finance & Corporate, Brenton Cox, said
construction work within the existing terminal structure will significantly narrow the
thoroughfare between the security checkpoint and gates 10 to 16 – these are the gates to the
left of security towards the ‘city-end’ of the terminal. The international departures entry point
does not change during this construction phase.

“Customers will still have direct access to all gates, but it’s likely to lead to a bit more
congestion particularly during peak times along the concourse,” Mr Cox said.

“For domestic flights departing from Gate 19, customers will no longer be able to walk
straight through from the main concourse past the Coopers Bar and will instead will need to
access the gate from the southern end of the main concourse via Gate 20.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as these construction
works continue.

“Once completed, our expanded terminal will provide significantly more space, particularly for
international travellers and for retail shopping and dining. We recognise there will be some
unavoidable disruption for travellers in the short term, but we think the end result will be
exciting for all of our customers.”

The terminal expansion will see a complete refurbishment of retail areas, resulting in a more
than 80 per cent increase in the overall size of the terminal’s retail and dining precinct across
domestic and international areas. The presence of a number of iconic South Australian
brands as well as the ultimate location of the Vickers Vimy aircraft within the ground floor of
the main terminal will deliver a real sense of place for passengers.

Virgin Australia will also be opening an expanded lounge next year offering an exciting new
experience for its customers.

International upgrades will include a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals, more space for
emigration and immigration processing, expanded security screening, a larger duty-free
precinct for arrivals and departures, and expanded dining and retail options.
