Airport Overview
Goolwa Airport is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. A stone throw from the Murray River Mouth. Geoff Eastwood and his team operate the airport and kiosk. There is a Recreational Flight school and parachuting.
Charity Event
Geoff provides the airfield for the Aldinga Aero Club’s annual Fun Flight day. This is where aero club members take children with life-threatening illnesses on scenic/joy flights around the Gollwa area and Coorong. There may be up to 30 planes on such days with 80 or more children having flights.
It’s great to have the facilities available for such worthy causes. From what we saw, the children and their families loved every minute.
Fly-ins
Many aero club hold fly-ins at Goolwa and camp there over-night before returning to their home field. 5DME have had the opportunity to cover many of these events over the years and it’s always a great trip to Goolwa for such events.
Special Aircraft
There are also several aircraft of interest at the Goolwa Aerodrome. Jim Whalley’s Marchetti Trainer is one of those aircraft which we were able to see in flight on the same day as the Aldinga Aero Club’s Fun Flight day.
