Adelaide Airport gears up for busiest week on record

Adelaide Airport is forecast to experience its busiest week on record this week with more than 90
additional domestic flights scheduled in the lead up to AFL Gather Round when compared with flight
movements in March.
Passenger numbers between Monday 7 April and Sunday 13 April are forecast to reach just shy of
200,000 people, surpassing the previous weekly record of 182,000 passengers set during Gather
Round in 2023.
The number of arriving and departing domestic flights will increase from 1,013 in the week
commencing March 24 to 1,107 flights this week. This year’s Gather Round also overlaps with the
start of school holidays in South Australia, further boosting flight demand.
Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox said the airport and airlines would have increased
resources working together across check-in, security, baggage handling, and other operations to
ensure customers had a seamless journey both arriving and departing in the coming days.
“We’re heading for our busiest week on record and just short of our busiest month on record with
passenger numbers peaking in the lead up to Gather Round and school holidays,” Mr Cox said.
“Our busiest days are forecast to be this Thursday and the following Monday, but we’re expecting to
exceed 30,000 passengers per day over four of the five days during Gather Round.
“This is great for the airport and our airline partners, but it is also fantastic news for our airport tenants
including our retailers and of course all of the wonderful accommodation providers and tourism
operators in and around Adelaide and South Australia.
“We want to make everyone’s journey as easy and seamless as possible so we’re making sure we
have more resources available to support our operations. This week we are opening up two more of
our new state-of-the-art security screening lanes to meet regulatory requirements and provide a
simpler security experience for customers.”
Adelaide Airport will create a welcoming gateway for footy fans with special displays including the AFL
Premiership Cup, a giant football and cut outs of AFL captains for photo opportunities, live music
featuring SA artists, and a DJ pumping out tunes for arriving passengers in the baggage reclaim hall.
