REX BOOSTS FLIGHTS FROM ADELAIDE
 First Adelaide-Brisbane flight takes-off today
 Strong demand for $149 launch fares
 Passengers embrace Australia’s most reliable airline
 Rex to set new benchmark for on-time performance
Rex now connects Adelaide with three other capital cities following this morning’s inaugural
flight to Brisbane.
A host of dignitaries and industry leaders were on hand to farewell Rex’s Adelaide-Brisbane
flight ZL904 which departed on-time at 09.45am.
They included South Australian Treasurer, Stephen Mullighan, Rex General Manager Flight
Operations and Chief Pilot, Paul Fisher and Adelaide Airport’s Executive General Manager
People, Culture and Customer, Dermot O’Neill.
Adelaide is now connected to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane on the Rex network, with daily
flights to all three cities.
Rex Deputy Chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM, said the new flights operated by a Boeing
737-800NG would provide an additional 124,000 seats a year between Brisbane and
Adelaide. Prior to the pandemic, 875,000 people flew between these two cities.
“Our forward bookings on Adelaide-Brisbane indicate that passengers, fed-up with poor
reliability and lousy service offered by other carriers, are already embracing Rex’s outstanding
record of operational excellence,” Mr Sharp said.
“In September for example, just 58.1% of Jetstar’s flights departed on time while 11.4% of that
airline’s flights were cancelled. Virgin cancelled 6.6% of its flights with only 67.2% of flights
departing on time. Rex’s national average on its domestic fleet was nearly 80% for On Time
Departure, with a cancellation rate of only 0.2%.”
South Australian Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison said: “It is great news that we can add another
interstate flight into Adelaide, which gives both visitors to South Australia and those doing
business in our state more opportunities to get here, discover our state and contribute to our
economy.
“More capacity will assist our strong tourism sector and help capitalise on the significant
amount of South Australian events ahead.
“Tourism has never been stronger, with our visitor economy now worth a record high $9.9
billion – an increase of $3.8 billion in just 12 months.”
Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox, also congratulated Rex on its inaugural
Adelaide-Brisbane service, further strengthening aviation links between the two cities.
“Rex has made an immediate impression on Australia’s domestic market, and today’s launch
comes on the back of the strong demand we’ve already witnessed on services from Adelaide
to Melbourne and Sydney,” Mr Cox said.
“Rex has long been a strong supporter of the South Australian aviation market and we’re
delighted that its domestic expansion is making a tangible difference and offering our
customers more choice,” he said.
